Kay Elizabeth Workman, 86, of Arthurdale, WV went to her heavenly home on October 8, 2021. Kay was born in Sterling, Illinois to Kenneth Mark Harrison and Evelyn Elizabeth Lowrie on August 9, 1935. She was a 1953 graduate from Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston, WV.
Kay was passionate about caring for people. She felt called to be a nurse and completed her training as an RN at Charleston Hospital School of Nursing in 1956. After 30 years of nursing service, she retired from Preston Memorial, Kingwood, WV.
Kay was instrumental in creating the volunteer auxiliary for Stonerise Kingwood (formerly Pine Ridge Skilled Nursing Center / Heartland). For 31 years, she truly loved the friendship of the volunteers, staff and residents. She felt they were her extended family, especially when she called BINGO.
Kay is remembered for her laughter and steadfast faith. She made it her mission to brighten the lives of others with the thousands of cards and messages she mailed over her lifetime. These cards and notes were always filled with handwritten heartfelt prayers and warm wishes.
In addition, she enjoyed Christian devotions, Bible study, gardening, crafting, decorating for every holiday season and her family time.
With her devoted husband, Charles Ray Workman, by her side for 63 years, she was a loving mother and grandmother serving the Lord faithfully. Together they joined First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ of Morgantown, WV in 1974. She loved to share the Good News especially with the children and was a Junior Church Leader and Sunday School teacher for many years!
Her family includes two daughters: Sharon and Pam Workman (Crosby, TX), three sons and daughters-in-law: Charles Mark and Susan Workman (Lexington, KY), Wayne and Tammy Workman (Albright, WV) and Bruce and Sue Workman (Reedsville, WV). She was the proud Grandma of eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Kay also is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Ben and Carol Harrison (Dayton, OH).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Workman in 2020, her parents and granddaughter Bethany Sue Workman.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Stonerise Kingwood, Preston Home Health for their many visits to care for Kay and WV Caring for holding her hand.
