Obituary of JoAnn Olivito Birurakis

JoAnn “Olivito” Birurakis, age 89 of Morgantown went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family. JoAnn was born December 14, 1925, in Wendell, WV the youngest daughter of the late Catherine and Tony Olivito of San Giovanni in Fiore, Italy. JoAnn was a 1944 graduate of Morgantown High School. JoAnn was a very hard worker and passed that work ethic on to her children and grandchildren. She started working at an early age, working at Station Street Market (her dad’s store) in Star City, Comuntzis’, The Star City Bottling Factory, Bill’s Laundry, Fredlock’s, Sterling Faucett, and was a cook at several locations in Morgantown. As a child she attended Catholic Church, later was a member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, and most recently attended the Pierpont Church of the Nazarene. She loved spending time with her family, sharing scriptures with everyone she met and had a hobby that included cross stitching the Psalms and The Lord’s Prayer. She also enjoyed sewing, baking, reading her Bible, and taking walks. JoAnn is survived by her husband of 65 years, Louis Birurakis Sr., her six children, Louis (Rhonda) Birurakis Jr., Lois Ann (John) Williams, Catherine Birurakis, Robert Birurakis (Sandy Shumate), Pete (Renee) Birurakis, and Maria (Rev.Johnny) Whitehair, eleven grandchildren, Diani Jefferson, Stephanie Havey, Jason, Stephanie and Sarah Williams, Jessica Sanchez, Seth Rush, Joshua and Nicole Birurakis, Nathan and Isaac Whitehair and a very special friend Jane Yin, three great grandchildren, Logan and Emily Casey and Skyler Rush and one great-great grandchild, Rowan Ruloff, and one brother, Peter S. Olivito of Richmond, Ohio. JoAnn was preceded in death by her brothers, Johnny, Dominick, and Tony Olivito, two sisters, Rose Rosenstein and Daisy Riggs, and one daughter-in-law, Bonnie Birurakis. The family will receive friends at the McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road, Westover on Thursday from 10:00am until the 1:00 pm funeral service with Rev. Johnny Whitehair officiating. Burial will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in JoAnn’s memory to the Storehouse of God, P.0. Box 801, Granville, WV 26534.
