Obituary of Rosa Eleanor Harris
Rosa Eleanor Harris, 98, of Stewart Run, Morgantown, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2018, with family by her side. She was the daughter of the late Willie and Jessie Cordray Barb.
She was born on October 23, 1919, on the Stewart Run family farm where she spent her life until her health declined and she moved to Pine Ridge in Kingwood, WV, near her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Becky Harris.
Eleanor graduated with the first graduating class at University High School in 1937.
In 1938 she married the late Merlin Dallas “Bud” Harris. She and Bud lived at her homeplace on Stewart Run where they raised six children. Eleanor spent her life caring for her family, including her parents. She was a devoted homemaker. During the years her children were in school, she was involved with various school activities and served as President of the PTA.
She was a lifelong member of the Arnettsville United Methodist Church where she served as the Treasurer for approximately 30 years. Eleanor also enjoyed singing in the choir as well as occasionally being the pianist.
Eleanor is survived by five children: Helen (Bill) Brooks of Manassas, VA, Oscar (Sue) Harris of Ripley, WV, Robert (Joyce) Harris of Morgantown, WV, Mary James of Chouteau, OK, and Bill (Becky) Harris of Kingwood, WV. She is also survived by a son in-law, Gerald Angyal, of Dale City, VA.
Eleanor is survived by 14 grandchildren: Susan Sweitzer Jollifff, Billy Brooks, Eddie Harris, David Sweitzer, Alan Harris, Saundra Uy, Jim Harris, Susan Burke, Steven James, Jason Harris, Michael James, Olivia DeVall, Dallas Harris, LeeAnne Racelis and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, her daughter, Margaret Angyal, a son-in-law, Andy James, and a great-granddaughter, Amelia Jolliff.
Family and friends will be received at McCulla Funeral Home in Westover from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Monday, October 1, and from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service on Tuesday, October 2, officiated by Tammy Phillips, Pastor of the Arnettsville Methodist Charge . Burial will follow in the Arnettsville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Arnettsville United Methodist Church, 4317 Fairmont Rd., Morgantown, WV 26501.
