Obituary of Herbert W. Summers

Herbert W. (Sonny) Summers Jr. age 78 of Smithtown Road, Morgantown passed away Sunday, October 18, 2015 at his home. He was born August 14, 1937 in Shinnston, WV a son of the late Herbert Wesley Summers Sr. and the late Mary Katherine McGettigan Summers. Herb was a graduate of MHS Class of 1955. He was a veteran of the United States National Guard and also served eight years in the Army Reserves. Herb retired from Sterling Plumbing Group as a Budget/Cost Analyst with nearly forty years of service. He also worked for Senior Monongalians in transport support, In Touch and Concerned, and in his father’s print shop as a young man. He has served on the Board of Directors and was Chairman of the Supervisory Committee of the SFC Federal Credit Union for several years and was a member of the Joseph W. Summers Masonic Lodge. Herb enjoyed antique and Street Rod cars and was a lifetime member of the Dream Machines Car Club. He also enjoyed working with and helping the handicapped and the elderly. He was Methodist by faith and was one of the “Barn Kids” of Johnson’s Chapel Church. Herb is survived by his wife, Esther R. Satterfield Summers, one daughter, Robyn Warbel and husband John of Smithtown Road, two sons, Joseph Michael Summers and wife Janet of Smithtown community, and Jason A. Summers and wife Amy of Smithtown Road, grandchildren, Chad Summers and wife Ashley, Adam Warbel and companion Whitley Hall, Ryan Warbel, Michael Jepson, and Megan Jepson, all of Morgantown, great grandchildren, Taylor Summers and Brady Summers and Kace Summers of Morgantown, one sister, Sarah Kennedy and husband Bob of Des Moines, IA, sisters-in-law, Barbara Satterfield of Amarillo, TX, Jean Bucklew and husband George of Arthurdale, and Linda Haney and husband Jerry of Woodsfield, OH, Virginia Satterfield of Alliance, OH, and Lee Satterfield of Fairmont, brother-in-law, Joe Satterfield and wife Kitty of Fort Myers, FL, lifetime friends, Ed and Joyce Robinson of Morgantown, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and his feline companion, Herman. Herb was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Sam Satterfield, Dave Satterfield, and Claude Satterfield, and sister-in-law and husband, Nada and Don Rager. Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road on Sunday from 1:00 pm until the 2:00 pm memorial service with Pastor Jeff Stanley officiating.
