Clarise Gaynell “Mamaw Susie” Niezgoda age 94 of Star City, formerly of Mannington passed away Thursday, October 22, 2015 at Point Manor Personal Care Home is Point Marion. She was born December 6, 1920 in Whetstone, WV a daughter of the late Carney Bradford Thomas and Anna Jane Hess Thomas. Clarise had been a hardworking active person. She worked at the Westinghouse Plant in Fairmont and Hess Insurance Agency in Mannington, and Sturms Grocery and I.G.A. Grocery in Mannington. Clarise had also been active in the Mannington First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She was also active in community affairs, working the Mannington Park concessions, the Star City Fire Department concessions and worked the election polls in Mannington and Star City. She was also a talented seamstress and quilt maker. Clarise is survived by two daughters, Nancy Fletcher of Miami, FL and Shirley Maraney and husband Don Lee of Star City, three grandchildren, Don D. Maraney, Jodi J. Maraney, and John Christian Fletcher and great grandchildren, Kristen Maraney and Travis Maraney. Clarise was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Niezgoda and her son-in-law, John Charles Fletcher, her sister, Betty, and brothers Lott and George.
