Obituary of Evelyn Kennedy

Evelyn Jean (Teagarden) Kennedy, age 83 of Morgantown passed away on November 1, 2015 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law. Born March 31, 1932 in Morgantown, she was a daughter of the late Fred B. and Mary McDonough Teagarden. Her entire life was spent in the Sugar Grove community. An active member of the Sugar Grove Presbyterian Church, Evelyn has served as pianist for nearly 70 years and had also served as secretary, elder, session clerk and director of the first Bible School. As an eighth-grader at RiversideJunior High School, she was the winner of a Golden Horseshoe. An honor student, Evelyn graduated from University High School with the class of 1948 and helped plan many class reunions over the years. She graduated from Morgantown Business College in 1949 and began work as a secretary in the offices of Dr. John H. Trotter and Dr. Enrico Paparozzi. After four years, she retired to raise her family. During her children’s school years, she was a home room mother, a member and officer of the George W. Phillips P.T.A. and the Laurel Point Homemakers Club. In later years, she was employed as organist/secretary at Williams Home for Funerals and McCulla Funeral Home in Westover. Evelyn loved keeping in touch with friends and relatives by mail and phone. Music was a big part of her life, especially gospel music. She has played for many funerals and weddings. She enjoyed embroidery, scrapbooking, and writing poems and stories, many of which had been published. She and Jack Kennedy were married July 6, 1951, and celebrated 64 years together. He survives her, as well as two sons, Richard “Ricky” (Rosemary) of Dellslow, and Ronald (Sharon) of Sugar Grove, and one daughter, Anita Beth (Dale) Pyles, also of Sugar Grove. Her grandchildren include Brice and Angela Kennedy, Ronald B. Kennedy II, Bethany Jo Dalton, Crystal Kennedy, Julie (Homer) Wilson, Cara Kennedy and Tacy Jean (Robert) Layne. She has five great-grandchildren: Lexi Wilson, Jermaine Kennedy, Connor Dalton, Seth Kennedy and Homer Wilson IV. She has two special nieces, Jo Ellen (Louis) McGee and Ann Bennett. Evelyn is preceded in death by one grandson, Marc Allen Kennedy, her sister, Hazel Johnson, and a nephew, Jesse Fred Johnson. Any donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Friends and family may gather at McCulla Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 from 3-5 & 7-9 PM and on Thursday, November 5, from 3 PM until the 7 PM funeral service with Revs. Leonard Graham and Willard Rowan officiating. Graveside services will be on Friday, November 6, at 11 AM at Zoar Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.McCulla.com
