Robert Franklin Fitchett age 82 of the Grafton Road, Morgantown passed away Monday, January 16, 2017 at Monongalia General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 17, 1934 in Kingwood, WV a son of the late Joseph Henry Fitchett and Bessie Marie Bevan Fitchett.
Bob was a retired career United States Air Force Veteran, serving during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Following his military career, Bob was the owner of his own excavating company and a rural mail carrier. He was also an active member of the Masonic Order. He was a member and Past Master of the Joseph W. Summers Lodge No. 173 AF & AM, 32° KCCH of the Morgantown and Wheeling Valley Scottish Rite, member of OSIRIS Shrine, a member of the Mountaineer Patrol, Past President of the Morgantown Shrine Club and served as a Road Runner transporting children to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Bob loved to square dance and call and was a founder and active member of the Clinton Corners Square Dance Club.
Bob is survived by his son, Tim Fitchett and wife Vera Gay of Morgantown, two daughters, Bobbi Greathouse and husband Eric of Morgantown and Beverly Bolyard and husband Jody of Green Bank, WV, grandchildren, Erica Lindsay and husband Ryan, Rob Fitchett, Brenda Borden and husband Steve, Jesse Bolyard and wife Ashleigh, and Josiah Bolyard, great grandchildren, Avalyn Lindsay, Julian Borden, and Ali Borden, four sisters, Betty Trickett, Ruth Overfield and husband Cliff, Clara Burroughs and husband Lynn, and Roseann Hagee.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Shirley Ellen Cook Fitchett in 2016, and three brothers, Homer Roach, Harold Roach and Paul Roach.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at the 6th floor of Monongalia General Hospital, Amedisys Hospice, and Mapleshire Nursing and Rehabilitation for the love and kindness given to Bob.
Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road, Morgantown from 2 -4 & 6-8 Wednesday and on Thursday from 11:00 am until the noon funeral service with Pastor Brian Detrick officiating. Burial will follow at the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown with graveside military honors provided by Taylor County Honor Guard and the Air Force Honor Guard. Masonic services will be provided by the Joseph W. Summers Lodge No. 173 AF & AM and Morgantown Union Lodge No 4 AF & AM. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Bob’s memory to The Shriners Hospitals for Children, 1645 W. 8th Street, Erie, PA. 16505.
