Obituary of Arlie E. Chipps

Arlie E. Chipps, Jr., 82, of Morgantown passed away at Sundale Nursing Home on December 15, 2015. Arlie was born in Morgantown on May 22, 1933 to the late Arlie Todd Chipps and Tina Mae Crosby Chipps. Arlie was a gas technician for many years for Hope Natural Gas. He was very involved in community projects, his church, and civic organizations. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church. He served on the PVSD Water Board, was a member of Masonic Lodge #173, delivered Meals on Wheels to many area shut ins, found great satisfaction in volunteering at Ruby Memorial Hospital, and as a Monongalia County Reserve deputy. In addition to these activities, Arlie found time to do other things he enjoyed, such as: hunting gardening, playing the fiddle, flower gardening, farming, dancing, and travelling. Arlie is survived by three daughters Tina Louise O’Hara, of Morgantown, Dorothy Jeanne Chipps, of Maryland, and Susan Frazier and her husband Duane, of Pennsylvania; his son Arlie Chipps, III of Morgantown; one sister Deloris Shaffer of Core, WV; three brothers Harold Chipps of Michigan, Dale Chipps of Maryland, and Ronald Chipps, of Florida; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, Arlie was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Sally Starkey Chipps; and his sister Eleanor. Friends will be received at McCulla Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 16th from 7-9 pm and on Thursday, from 10 am until the 11 am time of funeral service. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Online condolences may be extended to the family at www.mcculla.com
