Arlen Glen Shafer, 82, of River Road, Morgantown, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born July 15, 1933 in Morgantown, a son of the late Jesse E. and Opal Currey Shafer. Arlen had served as a Lock Master at several locks in his career, ending at Hildebrand and Opekiska Lock and Dams, following in his father’s footsteps. He had served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was an avid fisherman, loved watching Mountaineer sports, and loved watching his grandkids play baseball and softball. His greatest joy was loving and taking care of his wife and sweetheart, Sylvia. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sylvia Bruno Shafer, one son, Tim Shafer and wife Karen of River Road, one daughter, Lurena Lindamood of Morgantown, one brother, Kenton Dale Shafer of Dale City, VA, grandchildren, Anna Shafer, Allison Shafer, Abby Shafer, Melanie Lindamood, Kenleigh Lindamood, Garrett Lindamood, and Justin Lindamood. Arlen was preceded in death by his son Rodney Shafer, two sisters, Marjorie L. Gidley and Mary E. Lockhart, and two brothers, Jesse Eldon Shafer and Ralph Q. Shafer. Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road from 2-8 pm Sunday and on Monday from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am funeral service with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery with full military honors conferred by the Westover VFW Post #9916 and the Andrews Air Force Honor Guard.
