Elizabeth “Bunnie” Julia Bowen, 96, formerly of Westover, passed away, Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Sundale Nursing Home, in Morgantown.
She was born August 13, 1919, in Johnson City, Illinois, the daughter of John and Mary Ruszsych Sych
Bunnie graduated from Morgantown High School in 1938. She worked at Monongalia General Hospital, as a medical secretary for Dr. Schirr and Dr. Edgar F. Heiskell II. In addition she worked for the UMWA before retiring. Bunnie had been active in community groups, serving as secretary for Golden Kiwanis, a member of Secretaries International, United Methodist Women and Annie Club. She was an avid snow skier, swimmer and enjoyed hiking, archeology and painting. As a member of the Westover United Methodist Church, she made birthday and sympathy cards that were mailed to the members.
Bunnie is survived by a son, Victor Bowen and wife Charlene and a daughter-in-law, Jane Bowen all of Morgantown; seven grandchildren, Sandra Elizabeth Fouch and husband Michael of Monaca, PA. Roger Wayne Bowen and fiancée Joni Perry of Louisville, KY; Ronald John Bowen and wife Lori of Washington DC; Brian Lee Bowen and wife Suzie of San Diego, CA; Julia Bowen Chidester of Fairmont, WV; Stephanie Budd and husband Thomas of Warrenton, VA; Rebecca Miller of Washington DC; five great grandchildren, Carson and Landry Bowen, Sadie and Lauren Chidester, and Jacob Fouch and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bunnie was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne “Larky” Bowen, a son, Walter L. Bowen, brothers Gaza, Ernie, and Gene Sych and a sister Anna O’Brad.
Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road, Morgantown from 4-8 pm Friday and on Saturday from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am funeral service with Rev. Kevin Cain officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to either Sundale Nursing Home Activities, 800 JD Anderson Drive, Morgantown, WV 26505 or Morgantown Hospice LLC, 1063 Maple Drive, Morgantown, WV 26505.
