Obituary of Laverne D. Haines

Laverne Dale Haines age 83 of Westover passed away unexpectedly on Friday July 14, 2023 at his home. He was born December 24, 1939 in Mt. Morris a son of the late Marie Gallatin and Olan Dale Haines.
Laverne was retired from D & L Drywall and Big Bee Construction and served several years as a Westover City Councilman. Laverne was a true family man, who loved his family to the fullest.
In his early years he enjoyed taking his family on vacations and riding motorcycles (which he passed on to his daughters). Laverne also enjoyed camping, telling jokes and loved his canine companions, Nova, Precious, and Lacie Marie.
Laverne is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Julia Haines, three daughters, Susan Sellers and companion Tom Gump of Morgantown, Lavonne Hall and companion Ralph “Billy” Maust of Morgantown, Michelle Wilson of Morgantown, grandchildren, Amanda Sellers and companion Will Wilde of Fairmont, Jared and Megan Wilson of Charleston, Emily Sellers of Morgantown, Justin Tyler Wilson of Morgantown, great grandchildren, Everleigh Grace and Collin William, step granddaughters, Ashlie (Andrew) McCure of Tunnelton, Kellie Gump of Morgantown and step great grandchildren, Nova Ray and Lainey May, sister-in-law, Sandy Jones of Morgantown, brothers-in-law, John (Robin) Jones of Morgantown, Vince Hamilton of Morgantown, Ed Whisler of Morgantown, several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
In addition to his parents, Laverne was preceded in death by his sister, Mona Lee at birth, Shelba Hamilton, son-in-law William “Bill” Wilson Jr., and sister-in-law, Donna Whisler.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Laverne’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1299 Pineview Dr. #3, Morgantown, WV 26505.
Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road, Westover from 2-7 pm on Monday. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 am with Pastor Daniel Strosnider officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.McCulla.com.
