Obituary of Mary Helen Powell

Mary Helen Powell, 96, of Morgantown went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 26, 2023 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, with her family by her side. Mary was born in Tunnelton, WV on September 25, 1926 to the late Homer and Ollie Watkins Bolyard. Mary was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mary worked as a homemaker and enjoyed providing for her family in that way. She was in fellowship at Crescent Hills Bible Chapel in Westover, where she enjoyed gathering to serve the Lord. She served as an Awana leader for many years and enjoyed sweets, puzzles of all kinds. Mary was a social butterfly and enjoyed being around people and the many friends she made over the last 23 years at Chestnut Hill Apartments.
Mary leaves behind her daughter: Kimberly Kaye L. Peterson (A. Wayne) of Yorktown, VA; son: Gregory Earl Powell (Judy Lynn) of Morgantown; grandchildren: Brett Lewis (Melanie), Erica Peterson, and Stephanie Padrick (Heath); great grandchildren: George Trekas, Harper Lewis, Haiden Lewis, Ashton Padrick and Lily Padrick; many beloved nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews; and a host of extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband: Benjamin Earl Powell; twin sister: Martha Keener; sisters: Margie Johnson, Ellen Dunn, and Sophie Bolyard; brothers: Blaine Bolyard, Carlos Bolyard, Charles Bolyard, and Foster Bolyard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Mary’s memory to the Billy Graham Association, at: 1 Billy Graham Parkway Charlotte, NC 28201.
Family and friends are invited to gather at McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road, Westover on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 for visitation from 9 am until 11 am. A funeral service will be held at 11 am with the Elders of Crescent Hills officiating. Mary will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
