Obituary of George Cavender
Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
George A. Cavender “Fred” also known as “Cheech” broke on through to the other side on September 18th, 2022. He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and friend to many.
Fred was born in El Paso, TX, the son of James H. Cavender and Maria E. Oronoz-Cavender. After leaving El Paso, his family lived in San Diego, CA, Durham, NC, and Cincinnati, OH before coming to Morgantown, WV when he was a teenager and making Morgantown his permanent home. He graduated from Morgantown High school in 1976 and worked for Mountaineer Contracting for 30+ years.
He is survived by his son, Erik M. Cavender and his wife Alexa M. Panico-Cavender; daughter, Adriane J. Cavender; his grand-sons, Nathen Douglas and Trenten James; the mother of his children, Joyce L. Cavender-Hartley; his brother, James “Jr” H. Cavender; and sister, Lora H. Cavender-Reh.
His biggest joys in life were spending time with his grand-sons, rooting for the Steelers and Mountaineers, collecting novelty items, and of course, spreading love through his enthusiasm for plants.
Upon his wishes, Fred’s ashes will be spread through out areas of WV, TX, and Mexico, while Jimi Hendrix plays in the background.
An informal Celebration of Life Party will be held upstairs at Sabraton Station on 11/4 at 5PM. All friends and family are welcomed. Online condolences may be extended to the family at www.mcculla.com
