Obituary of John B. Gutta Jr.
John Battista Gutta, Jr., 67, of Morgantown passed away at home with his loving family by his side on Sunday, February 11, 2018. John was born in Morgantown on December 17, 1950 to the late John B. Gutta, Sr. and Beatrice Ghuste Gutta.
John was an entrepreneur, at the age of 19 he purchased his first tractor trailer, where he logged over one million miles while operating John Gutta Trucking. He was also the owner of Gutta Coals Corporation, and Gutta’s Garden Center at different times throughout his working career. John was not afraid of hard work and found great satisfaction in making a business work. He enjoyed working on and operating heavy equipment. In his spare time, John could be found showcasing his dad’s 1976 Cadillac Eldorado in area parades, especially the 4th of July parade. He was a Christian by faith and loved spending time with and most notably spoiling his grandchildren.
John leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Sharon “Shari” Cole Gutta; sons J. Brady Gutta, Joedy N. Gutta and his wife Sarah, and Todd M. Gutta and his wife Kristen, all of Morgantown; grandchildren: Gabriel Gutta, Cadence Gutta, Madeline Gutta, Julianna Gutta, and Zackery Gutta; sisters Maryann Weinheimer, Rose Whisner, and Anna Martin, all of Morgantown; brother Frank Gutta; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister Frances Ervin McMahon.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation to John’s brother, Frank Gutta, for all of his help and care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in John’s Memory to Avery United Methodist Church, 1152 Cheat Rd. Morgantown, WV 26508.
Friends are invited to gather in support of the family at McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Rd., on Wednesday, February 14th from 2-5 and 6-9 pm and again at Avery United Methodist Church, 1152 Cheat Road, on Thursday from 10 until the 11 am funeral service with Pastor Jenny Williams officiating.
