Obituary of Adelaide Newbraugh

Please share a memory of Adelaide to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Adelaide Florinda Burnside Newbraugh is finally reunited with her special love, Glenn E. Newbraugh (1997).  She died peacefully at their home on Wednesday, August 23, 2017.   Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she had touched in some small way throughout her wonderful and memorable life.

Adelaide was born in Morgantown, WV on December 6, 1929 to the late Charles Leland Burnside and Sara Russell Burnside. After graduating from Morgantown High School she married Glenn Newbraugh on August 31, 1947.  She worked for O.J. Morrison for about a year. Then Montgomery Wards for 27 years in various positions and departments and met a lot of people with whom she developed a great friendship.  One thing for sure, Adelaide walked several hundred miles over her lifetime.

She was a member of the Westover United Methodist Church, sang in the church choir during her younger years, and a member of the Methodist Women’s group.  Also a member of the Rebekah Lodge (IOOF) and a member of the Eastern Star.  Adelaide will always be remembered for her wonderful Angel Food cakes, various cookies (chocolate chip and raisin filled to name a few) and cakes.  She loved to bake and share her goodies with family and friends.  She also loved to collect pictures, articles, stories and document them in various albums for others to know the history of family and our country.  And everyone knew how much she loved animals, especially cats.  Throughout the years Adelaide nurtured, raised, and took care of many cats whom belonged to her and many that did not.  She never wanted to see any human or animal hurt or hungry.  Her gentle and loving care will be missed by so many whom she knew and loved.

Adelaide is survived by her sister and spouse, Charlotta and Ed Riley from Hillsboro, WV and several nieces, nephews and cousins (too many to list from the Burnside, Newbraugh, and Koon families).  The family would like to extend their thanks to the many caregivers whom helped Adelaide over the last several years, especially Katie, Wanda, Denise, and Lynda.

Family and friends will be received at the Westover United Methodist Church, 28 North Street, Westover, WV 26501 on Sunday, August 27, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Monday, August 28, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service starting at 11:00 a.m.  Pastor Rose “Jo” McCartney will be officiating the service.  Interment will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Mount Morris, PA.  In lieu of flowers, send donations to the Westover United Methodist Church in her memory.  McCulla Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and online condolences may be sent to the family at www.McCulla.com.
