Obituary of Irene Fleming
Irene E. Fleming, 90, of Westover died Friday, February 24, 2017 at Ruby Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born January 27, 1927 in Hagans a daughter of the late Charlie and Jennie Mae Eddy.
Irene enjoyed sewing, baking, cooking, and tending her garden: growing roses, azaleas, and daffodils. While her late husband, John was in the United States Air Force she travelled the world by his side until his retirement when they returned home to Westover, WV. Her heart was always at home as she enjoyed spending time with family and friends and especially going to family reunions. She was devoted to the Westover United Methodist Church; where she attended for many years.
Irene leaves behind her daughters Judith Rock and her husband Glenn of Summerville, PA and Joyce Fleming Ofsa and her husband Maurice of South Charleston, WV; three sons John C. “Jack” Fleming and his companion Shirley Champe of Westover, Keith Fleming of Westover, and Kevin Fleming of Westover; one sister Zoe Avalon Romero of Morgantown; grandchildren Devin Rock and his wife Tanya of Highlands Ranch, CO, Lesley Robinson and her husband John of New Bern, NC, Katherine Seabolt and her husband Christopher of Charleston, WV, Samantha Fleming and Kyle Fleming of Virginia Beach, VA; great-grandchildren Colin Rock and Claire Rock, of Highlands Ranch, CO, Kendall Seabolt, Kyleigh Seabolt, and Korie Seabolt of Charleston, and John Edwin “Jack” Robinson of New Bern, NC; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John Gordon Fleming, Jr.; sister Eloise Lepera; brothers Hubert “Smoke” Eddy, Charles “Reynold” Eddy, Eugene Eddy, and Arnold Eddy.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Ruby Memorial Hospital, especially the MICU and neurology teams for their kindness and care of Irene and comfort they gave to the family. A special thank you to Irene’s caregivers: Keith and Sue Wright and Joanne Beard for the care given to Irene.
Friends and family are invited to gather at McCulla Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 1st from 4-7 and on Thursday, March 2nd from 9:30 am until the 10:30 am funeral service with Rev. Kevin Cain officiating. Irene will be laid to rest with her husband, John, at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Pruntytown, WV.
