Rev. Joseph Cecil Hicks, 81, of Mt Morris, PA, journeyed home to spend his first Christmas with Jesus this year on the evening of December 22, 2016 with his wife by his side. Joseph was born in Coeburn, VA on December 5, 1935 to the late Hobert and Wanda Arleda Ramey Hicks.
Joseph proudly served our country in the United States Army working as a medic. Following his service, Joseph became passionate about spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He and his bride, Wandalea, touched the lives of thousands over his years in ministry. They ministered in Stafford, MO, Boston and Revere, MA, Old Saybrook, CT, and Poland Mines, PA. Currently, they attended the Trinity Assembly of God in Fairmont, WV.
Joseph leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Wandalea Sponaugle Hicks; brothers Carl Jones and Ralph Hicks; sisters-in-law Macel Zimmerman and her husband John, Bernice Tomer and her husband David; and several nieces and nephews and families whom they adored.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his sister Gretta Sluss; sisters-in-law Betty Hicks, Freda Stout, and Arlene Stout; and brothers-in-law Earl and Willis Sponaugle.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in American Diabetes Association, at P.O. Box 13067 Alexandria, VA 22312.
Friends are invited to gather in support of the family at McCulla Funeral Home on Monday, December 26, 2016 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm and again on Tuesday from 11 until the funeral service beginning at 12:00 pm with Pastors John Jackson and Fred Tomlinson officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery with full military honors by Westover VFW #9916 and WVANG, Camp Dawson Military Honors.
