Cecil Ernest Smyth, Jr. age 71 of Morgantown passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2016 in Detroit, Michigan. Cecil was born November 21, 1944 in Morgantown a son of the late Cecil Ernest Smyth, Sr. and Jessie Mae Nestor Smyth.
Cecil graduated from University High School in 1963. He served for over 24 years in the United States Army, retiring as a Master Sargent and Vietnam War Veteran. He then worked in Michigan as a truck driver for various automobile dealerships for over twenty years. Cecil was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing cards with his family.
Cecil is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joyce Keyser Smyth, two daughters, Shannon Marie Slavensky of Morgantown and Julie Ann Smyth of Kissimmee, FL, one son Jason Edward Smyth and wife Kelly of Morgantown, two sisters, Alice Wolfe and Husband Harry of Morgantown, Martha Scafella of Morgantown, and Patty Gaspar and husband Jim of Lorraine, OH, one brother James Smyth and wife Margurite of Shreveport, Louisiana, six grandchildren, Jessica Slavensky, Holly Slavensky, Shelby Smyth, Sara Smyth, Zach Smyth, and Cedric Ferrell, three great grandchildren, Peyton Slavensky, Brooklyn Shriver, and Baylee Stalnaker, and many other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Smyth.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Salvation Army 1224 University Ave. Morgantown, WV 26505.
A graveside memorial service will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 11 am with Pastor Brad Bennett officiating and full military honors conferred by Westover VFW Post #9916 and WVANG, Camp Dawson. A luncheon will take place at Community United Methodist Church following the service.
